A Neverlasting Agreement
And a studio tour update
I am grateful to all my subscribers for supporting me during these tumultuous political times. Here’s this week’s Substack cartoon.
Every day, the world anxiously awaits news of an "agreement” forged between the US and Iran. In recent weeks the world has also become accustomed to any such agreement being fragile and fleeting.
That is because it is hard to cast two more untrustworthy negotiating partners. Iran under its theocratic leaders has long been opaque and irresponsible. The US under Trump has been erratic and irrational.
The initial sketch for the cartoon was mere two and a half inches wide. Somehow it captures the spirit of confrontation I intended for the artwork.
the next iteration tried to capture the facial expressions and the face to face tensions.
As I was painting the art, it reminded me of this January 15, 2011 cover I created for The Economist. In the fifteen years since this appeared, the gun debate in America have only gotten worse. Let’s hope the conflict between the US and Iran does not suffer the same fate.
New Time for Kal Studio tour
Due to a wifi router crash just a few minutes into Thursday’s Substack Live, my studio tour needed to be rescheduled.
The good news for our paid members is the tour is now on for Monday May 11, 12PM (noon), EST.
I hope to see you then!

Perfect. Sad that the credibility of the US is on par with the credibility of Iran.
The agreement doesn’t feel fragile or fleeting to me…it feels non existent and imaginary. It’s a great cartoon, Kal❣️ I love all the flies! Lots of bs, right?!
