A new video has emerged of Senator Mitch McConnell, 84, being loaded into an ambulance on June 14 after being found unconscious at his home in Washington, D.C.

Since that date, the only news that has emerged about the status of his health has been from Republican allies who claim to have talked to him on the phone.

In an effort to dispel rumors of the Senator’s demise, they have described in glowing terms about their “lengthy and substantive” conversations with him.

There are many who are skeptical of these accounts. This has resulted in a barrage of memes on the subject from disbelieving citizens.

From The Archives: On This Day in 2000

In the lead up to the contentious Presidential election of 2000, the then Vice President Al Gore was trying to break out from under the shadow of his charismatic boss, Bill Clinton.

To elevate his profile, Gore tried to project a dynamic winning personality. However, this was not an easy sell for the normally wooden politician.

In the spirit of the World Cup, I wanted to share this cartoon from the July 2001 edition of The Baltimore Sun.

After the US men’s soccer team was eliminated from the tournament, there was much commentary about advancing America’s youth soccer training for future stars.

I think this is a worthy plan.

But only if we also train youth sports’ spectators to behave like grown-ups.
