Our First Anniversary!

In early June of 2025, I invited friends and colleagues to join me here on Substack to enjoy my new cartoon newsletter Kal Draws The Line. I hoped this new venture would be a fun way to share cartoons and stories from my 48 year career as a global cartoonist.
Then, few weeks later, the new management at The Baltimore Sun abruptly let me go. (The cartoon below was to be my last cartoon in The Sun but they refrained from publishing it)
I was saddened and disappointed.
But then something amazing happened. Fans of my cartoons from around the world rallied to my cause. Upon hearing of my job loss, thousands of people signed up for my newsletter. I was honored and humbled by the outpouring of support. Today, the numbers of new subscribers continue to climb.
Over the past year, I have published nearly 120 posts with countless accompanying cartoons. I am thoroughly enjoying my new lease of cartooning life. This is all thanks to you, my subscribers.
I am so incredibly grateful for your support in my mission to keep torch of satire alight in these darkening times.
Special Anniversary Giveaways!
To mark the first anniversary Kal Draws The Line I am announcing two special giveaways for subscribers.
#1 for all subscribers
On June 15 I will be holding a lottery for six subscribers to win a Zoom “Coffee hour with Kal”. The lucky half dozen will join Kal in a fun group chat at an agreed convenient time.
There is no need to enter the lottery. Your name is automatically enrolled by being a subscriber.
#2 for Paying Subscribers
a new monthly benefit for paying subscribers.
On the 15th of every month one paying subscriber, picked at random, will become the lucky winner of a signed and personalized full size print of my classic Buy! Sell! cartoon (a $125 value).

Sometimes terrible events have refreshing side effects. I’m starting to see the upsides to a couple of significant injuries, including the loss of a job with a disgusting alcoholic boss.
