Kalosaurus Rex
This week’s cartoon from The Economist features one of my favorite creatures…a dinosaur.
These giant reptiles are fun to draw and their intimidating presence immediately grabs attention when deployed in a cartoon.
Here, the (former) toothed Tyrannosaurus is sending a clear message to the global climate summit in Brazil (COP 30) that fossil fuels remain a formidable foe.
I have been drawing dinosaurs with glee for as long as I can remember. My Mom preserved this masterpiece that I created when I was seven years old. I distinctly remembering being a second grade celebrity because of my dino-drawing prowess.
Sixty years later I am still at it, as seen in this 2022 cartoon from Counterpoint. This velociraptor embodies the lie that came back to bite the political polemicist, Alex Jones.
The short video below from The Economist in 2017, expands further on my dinosaur passion. It showcases how a monstrous dinosaur can be an effective tool to deliver a satirical message.

LOVE that 7-year-old KAL! He's the koolest kid on the playground...NO BONES ABOUT IT!
Fabulous ❣️ I just LOVE your work ❣️
