Mirror, Mirror...
A Bad Reflection
Donald Trump is determined to leave his mark on Washington DC. He plasters his face on massive banners hanging outside of government agencies. He sets out to build a gold-plated White House ballroom and a 250-foot tall triumphal arch in his name.
Meanwhile the President has also left his mark on the average American’s wallet. The cost of living shoots up (hello Iran war) while his approval rating dives down. As long as Trump’s narcissism-inspired government policies continue, it is likely his appalling poll numbers will follow suit.
It is not uncommon to find mirrors employed in political cartoons as a handy visual device. I am sure that over my five decade career I have employed a mirror in my work on multiple occasions.
Among my first usages was this fun house mirror for the cover for The Economist in January 1992 (apologies for the low resolution reproduction).
My favorite cartoon of the genre is this one from the May 26, 2020 edition of Counterpoint where the mirror reference is saved for the last two words of the final punchline.

drumpf thinks that what people see when they look at him is the same thing that he sees when he looks in the mirror -- his narcissism blinds him to what is really there (not clear what's up with the 19% or so of the public that is actually totally okay with what he's doing as president)
You could run the 2020 cartoon right now & just substitute one (of the many) DJT sycophants for Pence.
